Ray White Kalamunda staff will don their running shoes and work-out gear on October 1 for Walk to Work Day.

Eight staff members from the real estate company will meet at three locations that morning and walk to work to encourage physical activity.

Principal Nigel Aldridge said that he rallied his staff to get involved in the national fitness campaign.

"We are a responsible workplace trying to encourage our staff to lead a healthy lifestyle," he said.

"Participating staff members will get a hearty breakfast once they have completed their walk. I think events like these increase work productivity. Exercising increases work efficiency and reduces inactivity and sick days, so that's a positive."

The Hills are within site

Appeared in The Sunday Times, September 26th 2010

Given such a unique position (and the legendary parochialism of their residents) it was perhaps bound to happen – Hills folk now have their own property website.

Three agents have overcome their natural competitiveness to team up for the venture, www.perthhillsrealestate.com.au.

Sam Saffioti, of Roleystone Real Estate, Nigel Aldridge, of Ray White Kalamunda, and Lindsay Earnshaw, from Earnshaw’s Real Estate Glen Forrest, went live with the site two weeks ago.

What inspired them? “The idea came from the realisation that a lot of buyers were interested in looking at properties within the Hills region – and not just individual suburbs,” Mr Aldridge said. “We identified a need within the market to supply a broader content regarding properties in the Hills and give buyers the ability to consider a range of properties and comparisons.”

The three partners have each been in the locality for 15 years or more and they went to TAFE together in the 1990’s for their real estate licensing course. “In addition, the three offices have confidence in each other,” Mr Aldridge said.

The website covers about 30 suburbs, including Boya, Maida Vale, Kalamunda, Sawyers Valley, Stoneville, Gidgegannup, Mundaring and Parkerville, and all points in between. “Sellers love the concept and buyers are starting to respond to it,” Mr Aldridge said. “As we promote the website we will get some more momentum behind it.”

Local agents have given expert insight into movements in the burgeoning Midland/Swan Valley & Hills region. What emerges is a picture of overall growth over time for these semi-rural satellites.

“Hot-selling properties are high-quality properties close to Kalamunda, character homes of any type, and modern homes in good locations. Also high on the list of buyers are well-prices properties on acreage and larger escarpment properties with views of the city. The changing face of the area is attracting new and younger families. Typically, you pay $400,0000 - $500,000 for a good block of land without views, and up to $850,000 for a home site with views. Houses start around $400,000, and you can pay up to $2.5 million for a home with acreage and views.”
